Over-use and incorrect use of pesticides is a major problem in Cambodia and creates significant health risks for smallholder farmers and consumers. It also adds unnecessary costs to the production of vegetables. Farmers in Cambodia also face a lack of access to fair markets and services such as finance. We work with farmer federations, agricultural cooperatives, market actors and local and national governments to improve the position of smallholders. Together with our partners, we focus on working with youth and technology, e.g. by training farmers to produce small videos with their smartphones to document the issues they face on a day to day basis.
The Civic Engagement Alliance program in Cambodia focuses on creating an enabling environment for smallholder farmers, so that they can gain a better income. We specifically focus on increased sale and consumption of locally, safe produced vegetables.
