Cookie policy

What is a cookie?

Cookies are small text files which are downloaded to and stored on your device when you visit a website. Cookies are widely used by website owners to provide you with a good experience while you browse, and also to provide information which can help website owners to improve websites.

Our site uses cookies to:

  • make our site work
  • collect anonymous data on how users navigate our site, which helps us to improve it
  • allow you to share our content on social networks

We do not use cookies to:

  • collect any personally identifiable information
  • pass personal identifiable data to third parties.

How to control and delete cookies

Cookies are used to enable us to improve services for you through, for example:

  • Remembering if you are logged in so you can move around the website without having to log in again on each page (for example if you are in checkout).
  • Measuring how many people are using each page of the website and for how long so that we can try to improve the quality of our website.
  • Enabling you to view content shared on other sites e.g. YouTube or Twitter.

However, if you wish to restrict or block the cookies which are set by the CEA website, or indeed any other website, you can do this through your browser settings. The Help function within your browser should tell you how.

Alternatively, you may wish to visit www.aboutcookies.org which contains comprehensive information on how to do this on a wide variety of browsers. You will also find details on how to delete cookies from your computer as well as more general information about cookies.

Please be aware that restricting cookies may impact on the functionality of the CEA website.

Social Media

On the CEA website you will find buttons that make it possible to promote web pages (Like) or share them (Tweet) on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIN. These buttons use pieces of code that also place cookies. We have no influence on this process. To find out what they do with the (personal) data that they process with these cookies, please read the privacy statements of these social networks (which can change regularly).

Third parties

Google Analytics
As part of its “Analytics” service, the United States company, Google, places cookies via our website. CEA uses this service to monitor and receive reports on how visitors use the website. Google can only disclose this information to third parties if it is legally mandated to do so, or if these third parties process the information on behalf of Google. We have no influence on this. We have authorized Google to use the information obtained through Analytics for other Google services. The information that Google collates is made as anonymous as possible. We want to stress that your IP address is not provided. The information is sent to the United States, where Google stores it on servers. Google complies with the Safe Harbor principles and is affiliated with the Safe Harbor program of the US Department of Commerce. This implies that an adequate level of protection is afforded to the processing of personal data.

Cookies set by Third Party sites

To enrich our content, we sometimes embed photos and video content from websites such as YouTube and Flickr. As a result, when you visit a page with content embedded from, for example, YouTube or Flickr, these sites may set a cookie.

The CEA website also carries embedded 'share' buttons to enable users of the site to easily share articles with their friends through a number of popular social networks, for example, Facebook, Twitter or Linked-In. These sites may set a cookie when you are also logged in to their service.

CEA does not control the dissemination of these cookies and you should check the relevant third party website for more information about these.
